The fourth ASEAN Traditional Textile Symposium wrapped up in the
northern province of Thai Nguyen on March 17, with Thailand taking
up the hosting role next year.

Nearly 400
craftsmen, designers, manufacturers and researchers attended the
five-day event this year, themed “Traditions, Innovations and
Interactions: Paving a Creative Path for Traditional Textiles of
Southeast Asia”.

With a wide range of activities
such as workshops, exhibitions and demonstrations of trade villages and
their culture, fashion shows and fairs, the event has highlighted the
value of the regional weaving heritage while helping tighten ties
between ASEAN countries.

On the spotlight of the
symposium was a fashion show of traditional costumes of ethnic groups of
Vietnam and other ASEAN countries.

Vietnamese artisans demonstrated how to make the linen cloth of the Mong
people, the brocades of the Pa Then, Tay, Thai, Nung, Muong, Ede ,
M’nong, and Cham ethnic groups, and the silk of the Kinh and Khmer
people.

Participants also had a chance to took part in various folk games and enjoy traditional dances and songs.-VNA
