Mini Doc Fest 2013
22 – 24 Mar 2013
Goethe-Institut Hanoi
56-58 Nguyễn Thái Học
From 22nd of March to 24th of March 2013, the Mini Doc Fest 2013 will present documentaries by young Southeast Asian filmmakers and artists.
At the opening night the internationally award-winning documentary Story of Kindness (1987) by Tran Van Thuy and a short film with footage of his grandfather edited by Tran Luong will take the audience on a journey into Vietnam’s past.
On the second day, the festival special program Voices from Myanmar, which was presented at the Chopshots Documentary Film Festival 2012, provides an insight into Myanmar. Different short films will show the beauty, but also the conflicts of our neighboring country.
The highlight of the Mini Doc Festival will be the latest productions of the last DocLab Basic workshop. Impulsive, honest, entertaining – the contributions of DocLab reflect the spirit of Vietnamese society today and are closely connected to the people.
The Mini Doc Festival will close with several documentaries by young independent Vietnamese filmmakers on Sunday.
Join us on the journey through Vietnam and Myanmar with different and multifaceted films. It is all about social taboos, complex family structures, identity problems of a young generation and a kitchen!
After last year’s Mini Doc Fest 2011 we are looking forward to welcome you again to an exciting weekend full of film screenings, debates and opportunities for exchange.

Come to the screening of a classic production of Giacomo Puccini’s opera Turandot, Puccini’s final opera. The composition of Turandot was incomplete when Puccini died in 1924, and was subsequently completed in 1926 from notes that Puccini left behind.
The opera story, set in China, involves prince Calàf who falls in love with the icy princess Turandot. To obtain permission to marry Turandot, a suitor has to solve three riddles; any false answer results in death. Calàf passes the test, but Turandot is still reluctant to marry him. The prince offers her a way out: he agrees to die if she can guess his real name.
The music is composed around a traditional Chinese melody, with several well-known arias.
The opera will be screened in the original Italian with English subtitles.
