HCM CITY (VNS)— Dance piece Danh Mat va Tim Lai (Lost and Found) will premiere at the HCM City Ballet Symphony Orchestra and Opera’s “Vietnamese Contemporary Music and Dance” programme next Wednesday at the Opera House.

Choreographed by Nguyen Phuc Hai and Nguyen Phuc Hung and to be performed by the HBSO Ballet, Danh Mat va Tim Lai is about the joy and sorrow that love brings.

In a release the duo explained: “Love is ever-changing. Those precious little almost-invisible moments might take some of us a life time to find … Love needs building and sharing; it could be a masterpiece when the lovers are great artists, or it could just be a messy color palette if we don’t understand the emotional chromaticity.”

Choreographer and ballet dancer Hai, currently head of the HBSO ballet, has choreographed and performed many dance pieces like Anh Em (Brother), Con Nguoi (Human), Zig Zag, Chuyen (Motion), Nuoc (Water), Hoi Tuong (Nostalgia), Nhung Manh Ghep Cua Giac Mo (Dream Puzzles), Nhung O Cua So (Windows), and Cham Tay Vao Qua Khu (Touching the Past).

Hung graduated in choreography from the Fontys Dance Academie in Holland and is currently general director in charge of HBSO’s programmes.

In the first half of the programme the audience will be treated to the newest works of several Vietnamese composers featuring charming Vietnamese traditional instruments and their marriage with western instruments.

Mat Troi Do (Red Sun) group will perform Tran Manh Hung’s Bong Cuc Trang (White Daisies) to the accompaniment of Vietnamese traditional instruments, while the HBSO Chamber Orchestra will treat the audience to Nguyen Do Anh Tuan’s Mong moi (Yearning) for clarinet and strings, Nguyen Manh Duy Linh’s Lan Gio Nhe Bay (A Gentle Wind) for piano, vibraphone marimba, and string, and Vu Viet Anh’s Truong Son for flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, vibraphone, percussion, and string.

Soprano Tran Hong Vy and tenor Tran Duy Linh will sing Tran Dinh Lang’s Tinh Yeu va Su Phan Boi (Love and Betrayal), while monochord player Le Nhat Le Uyen and zitherist Tran Nhu Ngoc will perform Do Kien Cuong’s Guom Than (A Magic Sword).

HBSO is working on a long-term goal of encouraging new works to foster development of the arts. Besides training a new generation of artists, production of their original works is an ideal way to encourage them, it feels.

Tickets, priced from VND80,000 (for students) to VND400,000, are available at the venue. — VNS
