The Old Quarter is a longstanding urban area outside the Thang Long
Royal Citadel. Since its formation, the old quarter has retained its
handicraft and trade activities.

1995 the Ministry of Construction defined the scope of the Old Quarter,
with Hang Dau Street as the boundary to the north, Phung Hung Street to
the west, Hang Bong, Hang Gai, Cau Go and Hang Thung to the south and
Tran Quang Khai and Tran Nhat Duat to the east.

When speaking
about the Old Quarter, we must mention Dong Xuan Market. This was one of
the largest markets in Hanoi several years ago. Dong Xuan Market has
existed for hundreds of years, starting from the Nguyen Dynasty.

The Old Quarter is located within Hoan Kiem District, with a total area of about 100 hectares and 76 streets in 10 wards.

and Cau Go. To preserve the old quarter, starting late 2013 to late
2016, over 1,500 families in the old quarter are being relocated to Long
Bien district.

In the next five years, more than 5,000 households will be removed from the old quarter.
