National Billiards and Snooker Championship opens
Nearly 400 cueists from 15 cities and provinces nationwide gathered at the opening of the National Billiards and Snooker Championship in Hue City on March 12.
They are scheduled to compete in five events, including carom 1, carom 3, English Billiards, 8-ball pool and 9-ball pool, from now until March 19.
From the tournament, the organizing board expects to select outstanding players for the 27th SEA Games which will be held in Myanmar in December.
Viet Nam convene for Asian Cup qualifying round
Coach Hoang Van Phuc has selected 26 players for the national football team’s gathering on Monday in Ha Noi in preparation for their match with Hong Kong in the 2015 Asian Cup qualifying round.
Overseas Vietnamese players Mac Hong Quan and Michal Nguyen are among the squad.
Goalkeeper Thanh Binh and centre backs Quoc Anh and Nguyen Sa of SHB Da Nang will join the team later after fulfilling their club duties in the AFC Cup against Maziya Sports today.
The team will leave for Hong Kong on March 20 where they will meet the hosts two days later.
In their first match of the Asian Cup qualifiers last month, Viet Nam lost to the United Arab Emirates 2-1.
Vinh becomes top all-time scorer in V-League history
Le Cong Vinh’s goal against Kien Giang in the second round of the V-League has helped him become the top Vietnamese goal-scorer in the league’s history, according to goal.com.
It was Vinh’s 87th goal in the national premier league.
The Nghe An-born striker, who plays for Song Lam Nghe An, now shares the lead with Brazilian Antonio Carlos of Hai Phong Cement.
Huynh Kesley Alves (Becamex Binh Duong), Argentinean Gaston Merlo (SHB Da Nang) and Brazilian Almeida (Navibank Sai Gon) are in third, fourth and fifth positions.
Ha Noi lead national rowing event
Ha Noi took the lead over 12 teams at the National Rowing Tournament in Hoa Vang District in the central coastal city of Da Nang yesterday, March 12.
The team grabbed nine gold, four silver and four bronze medals.
Hai Duong finished second with two golds, three silvers and six bronzes, while Thai Binh came in third with two golds.
Tomorrow, the National Canoeing Tournament will begin at the same venue with the participation of 128 athletes from 15 clubs nationwide.
The National Canoeing and Rowing Tournament attracted around 220 racers from 27 teams.
Sponsored by the Imexpan Pacific-IPP Company, the tournament offers coaches the chance to evaluate athletes’ skills and choose the most outstanding rowers and canoers for the national team, which will compete in several upcoming international events including the 27th Southeast Asian Games in Myanmar.
