VietNamNet Bridge – “X-Men: Days of Future Past,” “Godzilla” and “Maleficent” are three of the blockbusters that will be screened at Vietnamese cinemas this month.
1. The Huntresses

This new historical drama from Korea will open in Vietnamese theaters in May. The film revolves around three beautiful female bounty hunters who live under the Chosun Dynasty. They happen to get a very lucrative contract but it is also an extremely dangerous mission: stopping a group of nobles who are plotting to overthrow the King. The Huntresses has the participation of famous actresses Ha Ji Won and Ga In, a member of the Brown Eyed Girls band.
2. Adventures
Expected Release Date: 2/5
This Russian film is very suitable to the atmosphere of early summer. Adventures tells about the escapades of three ocean explorers in search of a collection of valuable Egyptian antiques which disappeared while being transported on a German submarine in 1942. The movie stars Svetlana Khodchenkova, who appeared beside Hugh Jackman in The Wolverine last summer.
3. Walk of Shame

Those who love actress Elizabeth Banks will have the opportunity to see her in theaters this month with the hilarious comedy “Walk of Shame”. After auditioning for her dream job, the ambitious reporter Meghan Miles attends a party and has a one-night stand with a handsome stranger (played by James Marsden). She wakes up to a message from her prospective employer, requesting her presence at the office before 5pm.
However, Meghan finds herself in an ironic situation when she becomes trapped in downtown Los Angeles without money, phone or a vehicle. She only has 8 hours to get to her destination for the most important interview of her life, or say goodbye to her dream job.
4. Jack and the Cuckoo-Clock Heart

The background of Jack and the Cuckoo-Clock Heart is the late 19th century, a period of many important inventions and discoveries of the mankind. Jack survives thanks to the miraculous surgery.

7. Godzilla 3D

First appearing on screen in 1954, monster Godzilla has become a legendary icon of world cinema. In the new version, produced with a whopping budget of $160 million, the story revolves around the U.S. government’s efforts to hide information about Godzilla’s existence.
The U.S. nuclear tests in the 1950s in the Pacific region are, it turns out, an attempt to kill Godzilla. But those efforts are unsuccessful, as Godzilla is contaminated with radioactivity and grows ever larger. When it reaches the gigantic size of 60 tons and 350 meters in height, this monster rises from the deep ocean and, well, let’s just say it’s payback time.
8. Brick Mansions

Based on “District 13” of French cinema in 2004, Brick Mansions is one of the last films of actor Paul Walker. In the film, he plays undercover cop Damien Collier, who penetrates a slum called Brick Mansions to disable a nuclear bomb installed by a criminal gang. This bomb can destroy the whole city of Detroit. Also starring in this film is David Belle, who appeared in the original film, District 13.
9. VP7500
Expected Release Date: 16/5
Japanese director Takashi Shimizu, best known for horror films like The Grudge, returns with “VP7500”. The story takes place on a trans-Pacific flight, when the plane flies into a swirling air flow on the route from Los Angeles to Tokyo.
When the extreme turbulence is over, a passenger suffers from a mysterious convulsion and dies. His confusing death marks the start of a bizarre sequence of events. When the aircraft approaches Japan, everyone, from the passengers to the flight attendant and the captain, are affected.
10. The X-Men: Days of Future Past 3D

With funding of up to $225 million and a gathering of many stars, “X-Men: Days of Future Past” is one of the most prominent blockbusters in the 2014 summer movie season. The film is the sequel to “X-Men: First Class” that debuted in 2011. In this movie, the X-Men join together to confront a life and death struggle for the survival of all lives on Earth at the two time milestones.
The cast of the film includes Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, and Nicholas Hoult, who join veterans of previous X-Men films: Halle Berry, Hugh Jackman, Anna Paquin, Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart. Two new faces are those of Bingbing and Ellen Page.
11. Blended

Those who loved the movie 50 First Dates will have a chance to see Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore together again in their latest work, “Blended”. The film is the story of a single mother and single father, Lauren Reynolds and Jim Friedman. Fate brings them together with a “disaster” date, after which both decide to never see the other again.
However, Cupid’s arrow once shot cannot be recovered. This couple meets again from time to time and the peak of “fate” is the two families accidentally meeting each other and even having to share a room in a hunting resort in Africa.
12. Chef
Expected Release Date: 30/5
Directed by Jon Favreau, who also directed the first two Iron Man episodes, Chef is a comedy about the culinary arts that brings together many big names, such as Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Sofia Vergara and Dustin Hoffman.
The main character of the movie, chef Carl Casper, unexpectedly quits his job at a prominent restaurant in Los Angeles after refusing to compromise his dignity with the innovative management style of the restaurant owner (Dustin Hoffman).
He leaves to find new things and on the way to Miami, Casper joins his ex-wife, an old friend and his son to open a mobile food shop. On the road, Chef Carl gradually feels his ego and rekindles his passion for the culinary arts as well as the taste of love and life.
13. Maleficent 3D
Expected Release Date: 30/5
Maleficent is based on The Sleeping Beauty, but is a story with a completely different perspective. The main character in this modern version is witch Maleficent, one of the most sadistic villains that Disney has ever placed in its cartoons.
However, Maleficent used to be a honest shaman with gorgeous black wings. Being betrayed by a human, she loses it all and is filled with hatred. Maleficent decides to vent her rage on the little princess Aurora.
Maleficent marks the first return to cinema of Angelina Jolie since “The Tourist” in 2010. With a budget of $200 million, this is one of the most expensive blockbusters in Hollywood this year.
