VietNamNet Bridge – A memorandum of understanding on the construction of the 134 km HCM City – Can Tho railway with a total capital of $3.6 billion was signed Tuesday, November 12, after six years of research.

The signing ceremony took place yesterday morning between the Southern Institute of Science Technology and the EDES Group (USA), at the witness of officials of the Ministry of Transport, the Southwestern Region Steering Committee and representatives from the Mekong Delta provinces.
The railway will pass through five provinces, starting from Tan Kien station (HCM City) to Ben Luc (Long An), through Trung Luong, Cai Lay, My Thuan (Tien Giang), crossing the Tien River to the peripheral of Vinh Long town before reaching Cai Rang in Can Tho City.
The 134km long railway line will allow passenger trains to travel at over 200km per hour and cargo trains at under 200 km per hour.
There will be 10 stations along the way. Environmentally friendly industries and hi-tech agriculture projects will be developed in satellite cities built around these stations.
This project will use the BOT (Built – Operate – Transfer) form of investment.
The joint venture will carry out a feasibility study and submit it to the Ministry of Transport and the Central Government.
According to the Southern Institute of Science Technology, the HCM City – Can Tho Railway will deliver great economic and other benefits to the Mekong Delta.
