HCM CITY — Actor and singer Issac will play a leading role in his new action short film, which will be released on YouTube today.
Vũ Khí Tối Thượng (Ultimate Weapon) is about a secret agent who tries to protect humanity from a crime gang’s weapon that can destroy the Earth.
Issac invited experienced director Lê Thanh Sơn to make his film.
Sơn is known for action movie Bẫy Rồng (Clash) in 2009 and romantic comedy Em Chưa 18 (Jailbait) in 2017. He won best director prize at the 2017 Golden Kite Awards given by Việt Nam Cinematography.
Issac also invited Vietnamese-Cameroonian model Huỳnh Tiên and martial athlete Trần Ngọc Tú to join the film.
“Sơn and I will bring thrilling and exciting action scenes to audiences at home during the Covid-19 pandemic,” said the 32-year-old actor.
Issac, whose real name is Phạm Lưu Tuấn Tài, debuted in 2010 as the leader of boy band 365daband, which broke up in late 2016.
He began his filming career with a leading role in romantic comedy Gia Sư Nữ Quái (Tutor and Naughty Girl) directed by Lê Bảo Trung in 2012.
In 2016, he played the leading role of the prince in the fantasy film Tấm Cám: Chuyện Chưa Kể (Tấm Cám: The Untold Story), a production of director Ngô Thanh Vân.
Thanks to the film, Issac won the Rising Star at Asia Star Awards at the 21st Busan International Festival in South Korea.
In 2018, Issac participated in the drama in Song Lang (The Tap Box), directed by Leon Lê and produced by Ngô Thanh Vân.
The film reflects the 100-year history and development of cải lương through the career of Linh Phụng (played by Issac), a young performer who makes sacrifices to pursue his dream.
The work won the Golden Lotus awards for best feature film at the 21st Việt Nam National Film Festival (VNNFF) in Bà Rịa – Vũng Tàu Province last year.
It was also honoured at various international events such as the third edition of the Sharm El-Sheikh Asian Film Festival (SAFF) and the Tokyo International Film Festival 2018 (TIFF). — VNS
