HCM CITY — Artificial intelligence is increasingly in the spotlight in Việt Nam, a conference heard in HCM City on December 22.
Speaking at VietAI Summit held by non-profit educational organisation VietAI, Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Bùi Thế Duy said AI is of the most discussed topics in Việt Nam, with more and more communities and events surrounding it.
But to develop AI, a lot more needs to be done since the country needs more synchronised big data systems, strong computing powers and talented workers, he said.
Networking is also crucial to fostering an AI eco-system, he added.
Nguyễn Hữu Lệ, chairman of TMA Solutions, a Vietnamese software development firm, said he has great faith in Vietnamese youths and their intelligence and their ability to pick up new skills.
Though AI is still new in the country, many people are adopting it easily, and more firms are embracing AI, especially in manufacturing, he said.
Nonetheless, more work needs to be done to educate people on the benefits of AI and how to use, especially in agro industries, he said.
More than 200 Vietnamese and foreign researchers and business executives attended the event, which sought to connect talent and build an AI community.
The organisers have said it will be an annual event. — VNS
