The Cambodia’s Government on August 31 issued a statement calling on
all Cambodians to remain calm and continue with their daily life.

The government also urged the people, if they choose to join
demonstrations to protest the outcomes of the general election held on
July 28, not to use their freedom to infringe on the freedom and dignity
of other people.

The Cambodian Government made the
call in the context that the opposition Cambodia National Rescue Party
(CNRP) led by Sam Rainsy threatens to hold a massive rally on
September 7 to demand the establishment of a joint committee with the
United Nations’ involvement to resolve the irregularities in the
election results.

The Government also urged the two
parties resolve their disputed election results based on the kingdom’s
constitution and law.

Earlier, King Norodom Sihamoni
also urged Cambodian people to continue maintaining peace and dignity
while the ruling and opposite parties resolving their disputed election
results based on the kingdom’s constitution.

He said
in a letter on August 30 that Cambodia is an independent and
sovereign state and has the Constitution as the supreme law, which is
respected by the whole nation.

Resolving national
issues should be based on the Constitution and tasked to responsible
institutions which are determined in the Constitution and other laws in
the kingdom, the king wrote in the letter

The
National Election Committee (NEC) has said the Cambodian People’s Party
had won the popular vote, taking 3.2 million votes to the opposition’s
2.9 million votes.

The Constitutional Council, the country’s top arbiter, is currently resolving complaints from the opposition.-VNA
