VietNamNet Bridge – Two well-known movies from France and the US will be introduced to Hanoian audiences in the first week of August.

“L’homme de Rio” (France, 1964, 112’) will be screened at the Institut Français de Hanoi – L’Espace, 24 Trang Tien Street on August 6 while “12 Monkeys” will be screened at the Centre for Assistance and Development of Movie Talents, 51 Tran Hung Dao Street (4th floor) on August 4.
“L’homme de Rio” by director Philippe de Broca, with Jean-Paul Belmondo, Françoise Dorléac, and Jean Servais, is a crazy adventure film for the whole family.
This fast-moving spoof of James Bond-type movies features striking location photography of Rio de Janeiro, Oscar Niemeyer’s nascent Brasília, and Paris. At the 37th Academy Awards the film was nominated for the Oscar for Best Writing, Story and Screenplay.
Language: French with Vietnamese subtitles. Tickets (VND60,000) are available at L’Espace.
In August, a selection of movies with the best plot twists, including 12 Monkeys (1995), Primal Fear (1996), The Others (2001), The Usual Suspects (1995), Fight Club (1999), and Seven (1995) will be screened at the Centre for Assistance and Development of Movie Talents. “12 Monkeys” will be the first movie to be introduced.
“12 Monkeys” is a neo-noir science fiction film directed by Terry Gilliam, inspired by Chris Marker’s 1962 short film La Jetée, and starring Bruce Willis, Madeleine Stowe, and Brad Pitt, with Christopher Plummer and David Morse in supporting roles. After Universal Studios acquired the rights to remake La Jetée as a full-length film, David and Janet Peoples were hired to write the script.
Under Gilliam’s direction, Universal granted the filmmakers a $29.5 million budget, and filming lasted from February to May 1995. The film was shot mostly in Philadelphia and Baltimore, where the story was set.
The film was released to critical praise and grossed $168 million worldwide. Pitt was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor, and won a Golden Globe for his performance. The film also won and was nominated for various categories at the Saturn Awards.

The film screening is for educational purposes and fundraising for Young Cinema Fund of the Centre for Assistance and Development of Movie Talents.
Donation (at the door): VND20,000 /audience. Doors open at 7 pm and close when the screening room is full. Seats are assigned on a first-come-first-served basis.
