Forty three-year-old Pham Thi Trang from HCM City was accused of deliberate breaches in economic management causing serious consequences, according to Article 165 of the Penal Code.
The Investigation Department of the Ministry of Public Security also conducted a search at Trang’s residence at the Saigon Pearl high-end apartment complex.
Both the prosecution and the search warrant were approved by the Supreme People’s Procuracy.
Earlier, charges were filed in court against Pham Cong Danh – former chairman of the board of the Viet Nam Construction Bank (VNCB) – and his accomplices for causing losses to the tune of more than VND9 trillion (US$400 million) for the bank.
Trang’s name appeared several times in the indictments for her alleged role in helping Danh to draw trillions of VND from VNCB.
Around the time Danh was arrested, Trang, however, flew to San Francisco in July 2014 and has not returned.
