HCM CITY (VNS)– Viet Nam Television’s VTV6 and BHD Company have announced plans to produce a local version of popular reality show Big Brother.
The show, to be called Nguoi Giau Mat (The Hidden Man) and directed by film director Nguyen Quang Dung, will start auditioning nation-wide in early September.
Starting in mid-November, the 65 episodes will be broadcast daily on VTV6 in season one.
The reality show franchise, created in 1999 by John de Mol, has become a television phenomenon with more than 40 versions shown in over 100 countries and attracting over 2 billion viewers a year.
The programme brings together a group of people from different classes and occupations and with diverse characters and points of view who will live in a house cut off from the outside for 65 days.
But with cameras everywhere in the house, every act of the occupants will potentially be seen by the whole country.
Each week the occupants will nominate two or more contestants to be ejected from the house. Television viewers will decide who have to quit.
The last housemate remaining will be crowned the winner and get an apartment worth VND2 billion (US$95,800).
Vietnamese viewers would have a chance to witness real people and real stories in real situations, Fortini Paraskakis, managing director of the Asia operations of the Dutch-based TV production firm Endemol, which has the copyright for Big Brother, said. –VNS
