The Vietnam Administration of Sea and Islands (VASI) hosted a meeting in
Hanoi on August 15 to discuss a construction project which would
complete the country’s system of integrated marine
resource-environment and hydrometeorology monitoring stations.
The project aims to build 14 new stations and upgrade 13 existing
ones, thus creating an advanced and modern network that can aid state
management of the sea and islands and economic development.
Addressing the meeting, Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and
Environment Chu Pham Ngoc Hien said it is necessary to build and upgrade
at least 10 stations before 2016 in order to meet the targets outlined
in the country’s master plan on basic environment and resources
investigation.
Construction work is set to be implemented in three phases and managed by the Vietnam Ocean Data Centre under VASI.-VNA
