DONG NAI (VNS) — The Viet Nam – Chile free trade agreement, which took effect last January, has opened up chances for their business communities, Chilean Vice Ambassador to Viet Nam Alvaro Guzman said at a workshop in the southern province of Dong Nai last Friday.

Under the agreement, both countries will lift tariff on more than 9,000 products and offer incentives for their services and investment in the next three years.

It also sets provisions on market access, regulations of origin, quarantine, and technical barrier.

According to Guzman, Chilean firms are keen to work with Vietnamese partners active in agriculture, garment, footwear, food, handicrafts and consumer goods.

Chile will be a springboard for Vietnamese firms to enter other Latin American countries, he said.

Vietnamese enterprises should engage with more Chilean partners and others from the third countries to learn about the market, Ngo Van Phong from the Department of American Market of the Ministry of Industry and Trade suggested.

The workshop was co-hosted by the provincial Department of Industry and Trade and the Viet Nam Chamber of Commerce and Industry. — VNS
