A new species of lizard in the Agamidae family has been discovered in
southern Vietnam by German and Russian biologists according to the
Vietnam Institute of Ecology and Biological Resources (IEBR).
This species, known scientifically as Calotes Bachae, lives near
residential areas such as family gardens, roadside bushes or lowland
forests in the southern provinces.
It was formerly
mistaken for Calotes mystaceus, another blue-headed lizard in
Southeast Asia , due to their similar appearance.
However, a combination of genetic analysis and study of the size and
scale characteristics of the animal revealed that it is a different and
new species.
Calotes bachae is small, measuring up to 4 inches (10 cm) in length and can change colours to better match their surroundings.-VNA
