Scientists have conducted seven field research projects to preserve and
develop gene sources, especially that of two rare tree species,
scientifically called Hopea pierrei and Sindora tonkinensis, at Bach Ma
National Park in central Thua Thien-Hue province.
They have also succeeded in researching and building many models to
restore natural forests, organising the investigation and supervision of
Carbi gibbon and applying the Mitigation Impact Screening Tool (MIST)
in managing and supervising a database on forest protection patrol in
the park.
These research projects have collected
useful scientific information in service of bio-diversity research and
conservation activities.
According to the latest
finding, Bach Ma Park is now home to 2,373 flora and fungi species and
over 1,700 fauna species, which accounted for 17 percent and 7 percent
of the country’s flora and fauna, respectively.
In
2013, the park’s staff will focus on the development of scientific
research, especially in cooperation with the New York Botanical
Garden .
About 50 km south of the Hue ancient
capital, Bach Ma National Park, located at an altitude of 1,450 metres,
has become one of the most interesting tourist attractions with
spectacular views over the coast.
Visitors will be
able to go to the top of Bach Ma mountain in the park as a road linking
with the site is expected to be completed in this summer.-VNA
