Up to 70 percent of the 1,300 hotel rooms in Tam Dao in northern Vinh
Phuc province have been booked by international and domestic tourists,
although there is still nearly one week to go before the five-day
national holiday from April 27 to May 1.
This is good news for
the Vinh Phuc tourism industry as it had been concerned that the
economic crisis and rise in the price of petrol would have an effect on
tourist numbers.
Tran Van Quang, Director of the province’s
Culture, Sports and Tourism Department, said that some travel agencies
in the locality have worked with hotels, restaurants and airlines to
offer reasonable prices to tourists, along with promotion programmes to
help attract more visitors.
Last month, the province organised a culture-tourism week to promote its images and tourism potential, Quang added.
Tam Dao’s 77 hotels can cater for 2,700 guests per night.
In the first quarter of 2013, 750,300 tourists (13,200 foreigners and
737,100 domestic tourists) visited Vinh Phuc province, helping generate
280 billion VND for its tourism industry.
Tam Dao, a range of
mountains located in three north-eastern provinces of Vinh Phuc, Thai
Nguyen and Tuyen Quang, is famous for its beautiful natural scenery,
mild climate, diverse flora and fauna, and various cultural-historical
sites.
The name “Tam Dao”, meaning “three islands”, describes
the natural beauty of the area’s three mountains that appear as a trio
of islands in a sea of cloud.
In addition to some well-known
tourist destinations including Tay Thien Temple, Tam Dao National Park
and Dai Lai Lake, visitors can now discover the forests or visit Xa
Huong Lake and Bear Rescue Centre in the region.-VNA
