VietNamNet Bridge – The wholly foreign-invested Danang Information Technology Park (DITP) worth some US$278 million got off the ground last Saturday.

Rocky Lai Associates Inc. of the U.S. is owner of the project covering 341 hectares in Hoa Vang District, Danang City. The IT park will be developed in two phases, from 2013 to 2017 and from 2017 to 2023.

DITP will consist of six functional areas: the production area, the area for research-development and training-consulting, the office area, the area for technical infrastructure, the area for product exhibition and the area for healthcare service, supermarket and school.

Paul Ta, deputy CEO of Rocky Lai Associates, said his firm would be in charge of basic infrastructure while IT infrastructure would be developed by Japan’s KDDI Corporation.

“The project will follow the model of Silicon Valley in the U.S. and Hshinchu Science Park in Taiwan. It will lure foreign scientists, engineers and IT and hi-tech specialists into Danang and encourage hi-tech training at universities,” said Ta.

He hoped DITP would attract investors around the world such as the U.S., Japan, South Korea, Taiwan and India into Danang.

“We are willing to pave the way for reputable firms like IBM and Cisco to invest here with land rent exemptions for 50 years. We consider these firms as pioneers; once they land here, other enterprises will follow,” he said.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, Danang Chairman Van Huu Chien said DITP marked a milestone in the development of Danang with hi-tech and IT as spearheads. It is also the first world-class IT park in Danang.

“The authorities of Danang City commit to support investors when they operate in the IT park, offering them opportunities and favorable environment for production, trading and solution supply. We hope investors will find Danang one of the best destinations for efficient business,” he said.
