In Long An, hosts Dong Tam Long An did not give their best performance but still beat visitors Ninh Binh 2-1.
Song Lam Nghe An (SLNA) beat Becamex Binh Duong, whose defender Tran Chi Cong suffered a serious injury, in Vinh. The 3-2 victory put the team at the top of the V-League.
Gonzalo Marronkle, one of TT’s two strikers, opened the score just 17 minutes after the whistle.
Tall man Marronkle jumped high among a group of Dong Nai defenders to make a straight header from a left-wing corner kick, which goalie Nguyen Thanh Diep tried hard to stop but failed. The southern team failed to find a means of defense against TT’s consecutive attacks.
The team suffered a second loss three minutes later.
Samson Kayode, the hosts’ other forward, sped up – leaving all Dong Nai defenders behind –before passing the ball to TT’s newcomer Pham Thanh Luong, who scored without any difficulty.
Samson had his own goal at the 33rd minute with a tap-in in the penalty box.
Without experience in the V-League, Dong Nai struggled to open their attacks.
Except for a consolation goal by Duc Nhan two minutes after the break, they lacked penetration.
Samson made a double in the 60th minute before Nguyen Van Quyet converted a penalty shootout into a fifth goal.
Quyet later grabbed the second goal after a perfect solo in the 80th minute.
With two wins and one loss, TT have six points and rank fourth.
Ninh Binh’s defender Le Van Duyet touched the ball in the box with his hand, resulting in a penalty shootout for Long An. Gilson Campos successfully made the score 1-0 for the hosts, who played under expectations yesterday except for talented goalkeeper Tien Phong.
Phong had his day, denying almost all Ninh Binh’s attempts.
His only loss was at the 70th minute when midfielder Sanogo Moussa passed all Long An’s defenders and beat him in a face-to-face situation.
The hosts increased their speed when the time was up and they succeeded in making a second goal just five minutes before the end.
It was the team’s first win after three rounds. They will next play Dong Nai.
SLNA needed only three minutes to register their first goal, as the visiting team had not yet arranged their team.
Binh Duong’s Cong was sent to hospital after a strong hit during the extra time period of the first half. His shoulder injury will force him to rest for several weeks.
His absence also strongly affected his club performance. After Cong’s departure, his team conceded two more goals to confirm defeat, although Binh Duong also scored twice.
SLNA topped the ranking table with nine points and three wins. They will play TT in the next round.
