VietNamNet Bridge – The story of two couples in the central provinces of Binh Thuan who divorced but got married a second time has caused tongues to wag in the province.

Nearly 20 years ago, Mr. Tran Van Truong, 38, married Ms. Cao Thi Nhan, 37. They lived in Cat Hai commune in Phu Cat district of Binh Thuan province.
Over one year later, a boy named Tran Van Tho was born to the young couple. Truong – a fisherman – spent most of the time on offshore fishing trips, leaving his wife and baby at home.
After a few years earning his living from the sea, Truong went to Ho Chi Minh City to work to send money home to his wife and child. Nhan stayed at home to take care of their child and make fishing nets.
In Saigon, Truong lost his heart to his colleague, Tran Thi Thom, 36, also a native of Binh Thuan province. At home in Binh Thuan, Truong’s wife and Thom’s husband, Nguyen Van So, 39, did not know about the relations.
Until early 2004, Nhan began feeling something different from her husband. She asked her relatives to investigate the life of her husband in Saigon and discovered the illicit relations between Truong and Thom.
At the same time, Thom’s husband Mr. So also knew about her wife’s affair. So said Thom left him and their baby (born in 1999) at home to go to Saigon to work for a long time.
“She worked in Saigon for several years and went about with another man. It was a big shock to me. I asked her to return home. She agreed but our relations cooled. After several quarrels, she left our home for her parents’ house. Truong usually visited her there,” So recalled.
Meanwhile, Nhan usually visited So to find ways to separate her husband from So’s wife. During the visits, she felt pity for So’s baby, who lacked mother’s love and shared her love for the baby One day, the baby hugged Nhan and called her “mother”.
At first, So and Nhan maintained distance from each other, but after a period of time they decided to live together. They got married in 2008. After the wedding, Nhan took her son to live with So and her daughter. They then had two daughters. The couple worked hard together to become the owner of a vast pepper garden.
At the same time, their ex-wife and husband – Truong and Thom – also got married. Recently Truong took his son with his ex-wife to his home to live with his new family. The couple has another son and they have also worked hard to have a prosperous life.
“We thought that after their break-up, Thom and So would never be happy again but it is a big surprise and very interesting that the two couples are now both perfect. They have overcome bad reputations to build happy families,” said Mr. Tran Nam, Mrs. Thom’s father.
Mr. Tran Dinh An, 52, chief of Hoi An village, where Mr. Nhan and Mr. Thom reside, confirmed that the two couples did not break the law because they fulfilled divorce procedures before they got married a second time.
