VietNamNet Bridge – According to the Vietnam Record Book Center, Mr. Cao Vien (born 1908) and Mrs. Vu Thi Hai (born 1914) in the central province of Nghe An are the eldest couple in Vietnam.
The center on July 28 presented a certificate of record to the couple, who live in Phuong Lich village, Dien Hoa commune, Dien Chau district, Nghe An province. Both of them are farmers.
The couple’s personal papers were lost in floods. They currently have only the family record book which was issued in 2008 by the local authorities.
Though they are over 100 years old, the couple is still sound in mind. They like reading the newspaper and listening to the radio. The man particularly enjoys writing poetry and he can cook very well. He can write the names of his children and grandchildren, and he also wrote a poem for the Vietnam Record Book Center.
The couple are called the “best matchmakers.” This title comes from their long life and happiness. The couple have eight children, including three sons and five daughters, and 34 grandchildren.
The oldest grandchild is 54 years old and the youngest is 25. Their grandchildren have matured and most of them are state employees. Their great-great grandchildren are from three months old to 27 years old.
They said the secret for a long life is fair-mindedness, honesty, fun, and a harmonious lifestyle.
