Vietnam National University, Hanoi has maintained its 139th ranking and Vietnam National University, HCM City climbed five places to 142nd in the QS Asia University Rankings 2018.

This year Asia University Rankings contains 400 universities up on the previous 350. The first 150 universities were ranked while the rest are placed in groups.
Vietnam National University, Hanoi remained at 139th while Vietnam National University, HCM City jumped from 147th to 142nd.
Hanoi University of Science and Technology placed between 301-350 moved up the table to 291-300.
Can Tho University was downgraded from 251-300 to 301-350. Hue University also has its ranking downgraded from group 301-350 to group 351-400.
According to QS University Rankings, Vietnam National University, Hanoi was among the top 1.2% of 11,900 educational facilities from 17 Asian countries.
Nguyen Huu Duc, deputy director of Vietnam National University, Hanoi, said top Vietnamese universities had met many criteria in Asia’s top 400 universities.
The student to lecturer ratio in Vietnam is 14.2 while the Asian average ratio is 12.5. The number of time an article by Vietnam National University, Hanoi is cited by others was 5.8 while the average ratio in Asia is 5.2.
However, Vietnamese universities still lack a presence in international publications. From 2011 to 2015, each Asian lecturer published an average of 4.5 articles on Scopus while Vietnamese lecturers averaged a publishing rate of just 0.7.
This year, the National University of Singapore was the top institution, followed by the University of Hong Kong and Nanyang Technological University of Singapore.
