Countdown begins for Vietnamese version of Oktoberfest

HCM CITY (VNS)— The German Business Association (GBA) and its 153 members will co-host Oktoberfest in HCM City and Ha Noi in October, the business group told a press conference in HCM City.

More than 14,000 people are expected to take part in the festivity in HCM City and 3,000 in Ha Noi, making it the largest German cultural event not just in Viet Nam but the entire Southeast Asian region.

In the southern metro it will be celebrated at the Windsor Plaza Hotel on October 11-12 and 15-19 under the patronage of the German embassy in Ha Noi and consulate in HCM City.

The events in the two cities seek to create an atmosphere similar to that found in the massive beer halls during the original Oktoberfest in Munich, complete with German cuisine and imported German beers.

Elmar Dutt, chairman of the GBA, said: “Ue are proud that the Oktoberfest events in Viet Nam are so popular among Vietnamese and the entire foreign community in Viet Nam, which is a cultural bridge bringing people together.”

In Ha Noi, the party will be held at the Cung Xuan Event Centre on October 24-25. — VNS
