Indonesia is likely to not import rice in 2013 as local farmers can
produce sufficient rice to meet the domestic demand, said Indonesian
State-owned Enterprise Minister Dahlan Iskan.

In
his interview granted to Antara news agency on March 24, Dahlan said
that by December 2012, the ministry’s state logistics agency Bulog had
about 2.5 million tonnes of rice in stock and it plans to procure 3.5
million tonnes of rice from local farmers during harvest periods this
year.

If this target is achieved, Indonesia will not need to import more rice in 2013, he said.

Last year, Bulog bought 2.6 million tonnes of rice from local farmers.-VNA
