Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi is making an official visit to
Malaysia on August 1 to strengthen bilateral relations between the two
countries.

This is his maiden visit to Malaysia after assuming the post of Foreign Minister in March 2013.

During the one-day visit, FM Wang is scheduled to call on Malaysian
Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak and hold a bilateral meeting with his
counterpart Anifah Aman on current bilateral, regional and international
issues of mutual interest.

According to the
Malaysian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the visit reflects the continuous
importance China attaches to its relations with Malaysia and this
will serve to cement the already strong ties that exist between the two
countries.

It added that trade and economic
cooperation remain a key aspect of bilateral relations while expanding
cooperation between Malaysia and China in other areas such as culture,
tourism, education, defence, law enforcement, science and technology and
people-to-people contacts have also contributed significantly to the
more vibrant and dynamic bilateral ties.

The
ministry also said that Wang’s visit to Malaysia represents a renewed
commitment by the Chinese government in pursuing a broader approach in
engaging Malaysia and the region as a whole.-VNA
