Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen on April 12 broke ground for the
construction of a 39 million USD national stadium, in preparation for
the Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) that Cambodia will host in

Covering a total area of 83 hectares, the
stadium is expected to be finished in nine years. It will comprise of a
football stadium, indoor sports facility, a water sports centre, and
wresting and boxing hall that meet international standards.

When built, the stadium will be the largest sports complex in Cambodia, and be able to seat 70,000 spectators.

Prime Minister Hun Sen said that from now until 2020, the country will
invest in sports facilities that will be used to stage the SEA Games.

Hosting the regional sports competition will be a
chance for Cambodia to promote its image as a country of peace,
stability and prosperity to the international community, the Prime
Minister added.

The SEA Games is the largest sport event in the Southeast Asian region which has been held every two years since 1959.-VNA
