Minh, Trang win titles at National Sport Games

HCM City’s Nguyen Tien Minh and Vu Thi Trang won the National Sports Games’ badminton mens and womens singles titles respectively in Thai Binh City.

Minh set a record by winning his third title in a row, after he beat teammate Pham Cao Cuong 21-15, 21-17 in the men’s final.

Earlier, he won the gold medal in the men’s team pool.

Trang, from Bac Giang, performed even better than Minh. She grabbed the women’s singles gold, after winning the doubles and team events.

Protect the Goal Campaign to raise HIV awareness in Ha Noi

A campaign to highlight the need for HIV/AIDs prevention and stop discrimination against sufferers will be launched in Viet Nam in connection with the ASEAN Football Federation Championships (AFF-Suzuki Cup 2014) in Ha Noi on November 22.

The Protect the Goal Campaign will feature fun activities outside My Dinh Stadium.

The Football for All Viet Nam (FFAV) project will facilitate the campaign in collaboration with UNAIDS, the Asian Development Bank, the Asian Football Confederation and the ASEAN Football Federation.

“The FFAV have worked has worked hard on HIV/AIDS prevention and the fight against discrimination and stigmatisation of people infected or affected by HIV/AIDS for many years since the project started in 2001,” FFAV Director Anders Krystad said.

Vietnam teams up for badminton tournament in Indonesia

Vietnam’s badminton team will compete in a badminton team tournament – Axiata Cup 2014 – scheduled from November 25 to December 5 in Indonesia.

The team consists of 11 players, including prominent names in Vietnamese badminton including Nguyen Tien Minh, Le Ha Anh, Vu Thi Trang, and Thai Thi Hong Gam, under the direction of Coach Ho Van Loi.

The badminton event will draw the participation of eight teams: Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, the Philippines, Vietnam, Asia All Star team, Europe All Star team, and host Indonesia.

Teams participating in the event are made up of one men’s single, one women’s single, one mixed doubles, and one men’s doubles, competing in a round robin system.

Held by the Badminton Asia Confederation under the sponsorship of Axiata Group and Total Sports Asia, the annual event has entered its third season, with this year’s total prize money totaling US$1 million.
