The National Assembly (NA) Standing Committee convened its 16 th
session in Hanoi from March 18-22, presided over by NA Chairman
Nguyen Sinh Hung.
Legislators agreed that the 5 th
session of the 13 th NA will start on March 20, during which they
will adopt eight laws, one draft resolution, discuss seven judicial
projects, the collection of votes of confidence on those elected or
approved by the NA, and several key socio-economic issues.
They debated judicial projects scheduled for approval at the 5 th
session, including the laws on amendments and supplements to some
articles of the Residence Law and Corporate Income Law.
Others up for discussion are the Law on Reception of Citizens, the
amended Law on Thrift Practice and Waste Prevention, the laws on
amendments and supplements to the Value Added Tax Law, the Emulation and
Commendation Law, and the Fire Prevention and Fighting Law.
A live-broadcast question-and-answer session was also held with Chief
Judge of the Supreme People’s Court Truong Hoa Binh and Minister of
Education and Training Pham Vu Luan.
Binh answered
questions on how to overcome shortcomings in professional expertise and
experience, judges and juries’ sense of responsibility at local courts,
and the enhancement of supervision to minimise negative occurrences in
hearings.
Luan clarified the policy on
comprehensive education-training reform, and an action plan to deal with
private tuition and generate more jobs for graduates.
The legislators gave feedback on a project to renovate the apparatus
of legislative bodies to improve legislature quality in the new
situation.
On the occasion, the NA Standing
Committee also adopted the Ordinance on amendments and supplements to
some articles of the Foreign Exchange Ordinance.-VNA
