VietNamNet Bridge – Thanh Hoa Province tops the country in terms of the largest number of graduates who have failed to find employment.

Thanh Hoa, find employment, graduates remain jobless
Many students do not receive good job guidance before choosing their course.

While over 20,000 students pass exams to enter tertiary education annually, nearly 25,000 graduates remain jobless.

The situation is a result of recent mushrooming in the number of colleges and universities in the province, which has reached 16 institutions to date.

The latest report by the provincial Department of Education and Training said as of February 20, a total of 24,956 graduates have yet to find a job.

Teaching sector took the lead with 3,762 jobless trainees. It was followed by information and technology with 3,650 unemployed graduates.

Hoang Hoa District has the largest number of jobless former students, at 2,815. It was followed by Hau Loc District with 2,108.

Despite the large number of jobless graduates, by last June 44,023 students were pursuing training at different institutions in the province.

Nguyen Van Long, from the provincial Department of Education and Training, attributed the situation to the uncontrollable development of new universities and colleges.

Many people have pursued service training while a lot of students did not receive good job guidance before choosing their course, adding to the situation, he noted.

Long said that the agency has no statistics about the number of graduates who can find a job.

Le Dinh Tung, from the provincial Department of Labour, Invalid and Social Affairs, said the same.

“Most staff at the department lack professionalism, so they are unable to make reports on labour quotas,” Tung admitted.

Le Thi Huyen, who had a good graduation degree from the Banking Academy, has yet to find a job for two years.

“When I decided to study in banking I thought it would be easy for me to find a job upon my graduation. However, the reality is far harder. Banks are recruiting a handful of people from hundreds of applicants,” Huyen said.
