Recently, we ran the survey about the mobile carrier satisfaction survey in Vietnam among 1100 people above 16 years old. Let me share our findings with you as I simply though this is interesting.
When it comes to the monthly charge of mobile, the average spending per month is 127,000 VND in total. Students spend 76,800 VND and Workers spend 155,000 in average. For your information, the average spending for smartphone users in Japan is $55 USD and there are many small and middle players to make it lower.
With regard to the carrier selection, Viettel is by far the No.1 followed by mobifone and Vinaphone. mobifone has nearly as good share as Viettel in HCMC, while Viettel is in a dominant postion elsewhere.
We also asked our respondents to rate their satisfaction level by 5 grades and took the average. They evaluate their carrier from the perspective of “area coverage”, “3G quality” and “call quality”.
mobifone received the best score in 3 areas. They won the better scores by 10-20% in all the segments. The trend is the same by the city breakdown. You would see that the 3G data satisfaction is low in Hanoi in all carriers.
Although the score for 3G data is worse than the area and call quality, I would say that the 3G speed in Vietnam is far better than the other emerging countries such as Indonesia and Philippines. The good quality of the network infrastructure directly has an impact on consumers’ network behaviours and accelerates the usage of the mobile devices. Actually the wide network availability of free WIFI here is the unique phenomena of Vietnam and accelerates good engineers grow.
